Gales, Games and Game of November

It’s that month when the wind blows, the puck drops and some people make their annual trek into the woods in pursuit of deer.  November is here and with it another round of gales, games and game.

Lake Superior has produced some nice sized waves already this month. It’s amazing how powerful the lake can be as it crashes against the rocky shoreline.  This weekend is the Lake Superior Storm Festival in Grand Marais and with a little luck there will be some big waves to check out on the big lake.

We’ve had our first hockey game of the season and this weekend Mike, his Dad and Josh will attempt to bring some game out of the woods.  It’s the deer hunting opener and everywhere you look you see blaze orange hanging outside to get rid of the human scent. There isn’t snow on the ground for the opener but the forecast says there’s a chance for it this weekend. High temperatures are only expected to get up into the 30’s and by Monday a single digit low is in the forecast.

The deer hunting is open for three weeks up on the Gunflint Trail, there are three more hockey games this month and I bet there will be at least three more gales on Lake Superior. Only time will tell if there will be three fewer deer on the Trail after the hunting season is over.
