I am happy to see the forecast this week calls for warmer temperatures than we experienced over the weekend. I have a difficult time getting outside if the temperature doesn’t get above 10 below. With this week’s heat wave it looks like I’ll be able to get out and enjoy the trails once again.
The bitter cold didn’t stop our guests from heading out on Saganaga to do some Lake Trout Fishing on Saturday or Sunday morning. They snowmobiled out, drilled holes, set up tip-ups and didn’t even have an ice fishing house to keep the wind off of them. They would scoop the ice out of the hole and before they could get the bait into the hole it would be frozen over with a skim of ice. They built a fire near shore to warm up by and the dedicated souls stayed out from sunrise to sunset.
I personally thought they were crazy for going out to fish in such freezing cold weather. Then when they told me a Conservation Officer came to check them I was really surprised. I can understand enforcement on a busy lake when the weather is nice and there are tons of vehicles at the public landing but what exactly they were looking for on Sag this weekend I’m not sure. If it was frostbite and frozen toes then maybe they were satisfied with their search.
With our heater fixed, the temperatures outside heating up, it looks like the fever will break soon!
