Alpine Fire Update

The fire was acting subdued this morning with very little spread due to the high humidity and other factors.  Now the humidity has dropped, the temperature is above 90 degrees and wind gusts are up to 13 miles per hour.  Fire activity has increased since around 1:00 pm and smoke can be seen in the air.  The planes are dropping water and foam in an attempt to hold the fire where it is.  Firefighters have worked on establishing a fire line by using an existing portage.  They will clear the area and lay hose down  with the hopes the fire will not jump the line.  There are alot of firefighters in the area and more on stand by if needed.  Sprinklers have been set up on homes in the area and fire engines are strategically placed in case they are needed.  photo by usfs
