Making Ice

When I woke up yesterday morning and looked at the thermometer it said 32 degrees.  I was surprised to see that it was that warm out so after I dropped the kids off at the bus stop I decided to take a walk.  It’s that time of the year when the kids get on and off of the bus in the dark.  The sun doesn’t rise now until after 7:30 AM and it sets around 4:15 PM.  Even though it was a walk in the dark, it was still peaceful and enjoyable.

Throughout the day I could hear the wind blowing through the trees and the river making noises.  The sun was shining brilliantly so when I looked at the thermometer the next time I was really shocked.  The temperature had dropped down to 20 degrees by 2:00 PM in the afternoon.

Now I knew why the river was making so much noise,  she was busy making ice.  I decided to head outside to take a look and listen to the river and I’m glad I did.  The ice on the river was as smooth as glass.  I have never seen the ice look so wonderful and  I was very tempted to go and get my ice skates.  Since I was the only one home I decided I better not venture onto the ice but it sure looked inviting.

According to the forecast it looks like we’ll be making more ice for the next week or so.  I will gladly put up with the cold until all of the lakes have a chance to freeze over good and solid.  Then if Mother Nature would be so kind as to dump a few feet of the white stuff on us, I will be more than happy!
