Kayaking Lake Superior

In September I wrote a blog entry about Amy and Dave who were paddling around Lake Superior.  They are still on their 1,200 mile journey around the world’s largest freshwater lake and thousands of people are keeping track of them via their great website.   You can follow their progress, see beautiful photos, listen to podcasts, and even watch video clips from their trip.  It is an amazing journey that has taken them through some awesome experiences since it began on August 30th.

I met Amy quite a few years ago when she worked on the Gunflint Trail at a neighboring outfitter.  She was and still is good friends with one of our past employees so I have even had the opportunity to paddle with her.  In fact, it was my first time paddling on Lake Superior when she joined our Dragon Boat team.  She has worked as a kayak guide on Lake Superior for the past few summers and I have yet to go paddling with her.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to convince her to take me kayaking on Lake Superior after all of the paddling she is doing now,  but I know I wouldn’t be able to find a more experienced guide than her after this life-changing journey.   Here’s wishing them a continued safe journey around Lake Superior.
