Gunflint Trail Canoe Races

It’s that time of the year again and the annual Gunflint Trail Canoe Races are right around the corner.  On Wednesday, July 19th Gunflint Lodge will host the races that benefit the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department.  Paddlers will be placed in brackets according to age and will compete in various fun races including backwards paddle, broken paddle and everyone’s favorite, gunwale pumping.  The summer home owners will start serving food and beverages at 4:30 p.m. Be sure to come early as demand is high for the famous Canoe Race Sloppy Joes.  The canoe events begin at 6:00 p.m. with the long distance paddle.  There will be other activities going on during the races that may include minnow races, hair braiding, golf and more.  The highlight of the evening for most people is the opportunity to win some awesome prizes and gifts at the raffle; tickets can be purchased at the races.  The grand prize is a Wenonah Prospector Royalex Canoe donated by Wenonah.  Come join the fun and help support the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department.
