Got Ice?

We are searching the forecast with hopes of some colder weather so we can make ice.  The Seagull River finally turned to ice as Sunday night’s temperature dipped into the single digits.  We’re happy the small lakes are freezing but what we really want is a few days in a row of below freezing temperatures so we can make a rink for Josh.

Josh officially likes to play hockey now and is doing an outstanding job at practices.  We were able to get him some extra ice time at a friend’s birthday party and when we helped his Kindergarten class at the rink in Grand Marais.  Now that the Curling Club has taken over the indoor rink the hockey players need to wait until they can skate outside.  We don’t want Josh to lose any of his new found confidence so we want him to be able to practice at home.

We are planning to flood our volleyball court and turn it into an ice skating rink for Josh and Abby.  The court is level and we even have lights on it; that’s a good thing since it gets dark about 4:00 PM in December.  The forecast doesn’t look too favorable for ice this week, but hopefully Old Man Winter will make an appearance and assist us in our ice making endeavor.
