Wolves on the Gunflint

Mike and Josh spotted another wolf on their way home from town the other night.  It wasn’t far from where we spotted the last one, but he was sure it was a different one because of it’s markings.  The wolves seem to be thriving just as the deer population is.  Almost everyone who lives on Gunflint Lake has had the opportunity to see packs of wolves traveling across the ice.  Since a number of homeowners and businesses on the South Shore of Gunflint Lake feed the deer, a number of wolves hang out around there too.  While cross-country skiing the trails around Gunflint Lake I often see wolf tracks, wolf scat, and once in awhile the remains of a deer killed by wolves.  I haven’t had a close encounter with a wolf yet, but I hope I get the chance to see one close up one of these days.
