Wet Weekend in the Boundary Waters

Over the past 24 hours we’ve received almost a half of an inch of rain at the end of the Gunflint Trail. It looks like it might be done raining for now as the sun has finally appeared.  The forecast for the upcoming week looks much better than it did for the weekend. There’s sunshine and temperatures back up into the 70’s expected for the week. That should make for better canoe camping in the Boundary Waters.

The rain can make things difficult when you’re in the Boundary Waters.  I don’t like to begin a trip in the rain because I don’t like to have to worry about things getting wet. I dislike packing up camp in the rain because I don’t like to have to carry the extra weight on the way home or deal with wet gear when I get home. Cooking in the rain isn’t that fun either.  What I do like about rain in the Boundary Waters is I don’t feel guilty sitting in the tent reading a book. I’m not expected to be out fishing or on a day trip and I can enjoy some down time.

I hope the canoe campers in the BWCA enjoyed their wet weekend.
