Snow Much Fun

We had a great weekend enjoying ourselves in the winter wonderland of the North.  We are so lucky to have so much snow on the ground to play in.  The cross-country ski trails are groomed and tracked and I can’t wait to get out and ski.  I wasn’t able to go out over the weekend because of all of the other winter activities planned.

Lutsen Ski Hill has been open since Thanksgiving and we’d been itching to go skiing since then.  On Saturday we pulled out our boots and skis, drove down the shore and hit the slopes.  We were happy to see the bunny hill now has a conveyor belt lift; even though we no longer need to use it for our kids.  The tow rope it replaced was more challenging than skiing itself so I’m thankful all of the new skiiers will be able to take advantage of it.

We spent most of our time skiing on the beginner’s hill, Ullr Mountain.  The kids looked like they did at the end of last year and are ready to take on some bigger hills, I’m just not sure I’m ready for them to.  We’re looking forward to getting back to Lutsen again soon.

Saturday evening we were invited to Okontoe for a sleigh ride and Christmas Celebration.  It’s always a treat to be pulled in a sleigh behind two Belgian Horses beneath a star-filled sky.  The trail is lit by the warm glow of lanterns and the air is filled with the sound of bells jingling.  We were taken to their lodge out in the woods for a Christmas Celebration complete with hot drinks, treats and plenty of singing and visiting.  It was after ten by the time we got home and needless to say the kids slept good Saturday night.

We have so much fun playing in the snow.  Mike got one of the snowmobiles running yesterday and took the kids for a quick ride down the trail.  I need to make time this week to cross-country ski and go for a snowshoe hike.  So much to do and too little time to do it in.  Come on up and visit us at Voyageur and you’ll see for yourself how much fun it is in our winter wonderland.
