Smoke from the Kekekabic Fire

Yesterday I detected the faint smell of smoke.  We’ve been experiencing smoke in the air from fires in Canada but this time it was from a fire in the Boundary Waters.  In July a group of ours spotted a fire in Kekekabic Lake.  They weren’t able to douse it and informed us about it when they returned from their canoe trip.  We notified the USFS who said they would check it out.  The USFS have been monitoring the Kekekabic Fire ever since.

From the USFS… On July 15th a small fire was detected on the southeast corner of Kekebaic Lake, north of the portage into Strup Lake in the BWCAW on the Kawishiwi District. Depending on weather conditions, smoke may be visible. The fire is 5 – 6 acres in size and is being monitored. Actions will be taken as needed. Information is posted at the portages from Pickle to Kekebaic and Kekebaic to Strup Lakes. Cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
