Paddlers Make a Difference

Paddling isn’t just for fun and exercise anymore. These days more and more people are paddling to make a difference.

This weekend was the 6th Annual Paddlefest on the Ohio River.  For the past several years Thaxton’s Canoe Livery has filled their 28 foot Pink Voyageur Canoe with breast cancer survivors for the 6 mile paddle on the Ohio River.

The mission of the paddlers and sponsors of the Pink Canoe is to promote cancer awareness to men and  women active in outdoor recreation, to stress the importance of early detection through mammograms and other dianostic tests, to show the value of exercise as an important aspect of healing, and to provide support to all cancer survivors and patients, as well as their families and friends, in each patient’s journey with cancer.

While it is too late to participate in the Paddlefest this year it may not be too late to participate in Kayak for a Cause.   Each year the Charity Committee selects charities for the 300 kayakers to paddle for.

KFAC is more than just a paddle, it s a celebration of spirit. We pursue adventures with purpose and use our physical exertion to do good for our community. So, the event includes so much more than five hours on the water:

All of the paddling spots have been reserved for this year’s event but they still need volunteers and invite everyone to attend the beach party after the paddle.

Those of you who are loyal blog readers know about our passion at Voyageur to make a difference through the sale of our Pink Paddles.  A portion of the proceeds of each sale is donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  We just recieved a new shipment of paddles so we have all sizes available and in stock.

The next time you are planning a trip or a weekend paddle then why not make a difference while you are doing it.  There are many events to choose from so take advantage of the recreation opportunities where you can make a difference.
