Lake Trout Catching on Saganaga

I wasn’t sure we were going to be able to get out ice fishing this year but on Sunday we were able to.  The temperature was in the high 20’s and there was barely a breeze in the air.  The sun was shining brilliantly and it was a gorgeous day.

There was a couple of feet of good ice to drill through but before we knew it we had a fish on the ice.  It was a nice little keeper caught by me followed by a 28" lake trout caught by Josh.  That was a big fish coming up through the small hole in the ice.  It was really fun to watch Josh’s excitement as he saw the size of it and tried to lift it up.

We landed more fish between us and enjoyed a delicious dinner of lake trout that night.  We even had some left to freeze so we can enjoy them some other day.  It’s always a sad time of the year when ice fishing for lake trout comes to an end.  The last day to fish them is March 31st so get out there before it’s too late.
