Good-Bye 2011

There should be some sort of deep reflecting that happens on the last day of the calendar year.  As I always say, "should" is a fantasy.  There will be no deep last day of the year blog from me today.  I hope you weren’t expecting one.

If you follow my "Tweets" then you would know I headed out for the first cross-country ski of the season yesterday.  The temperature was in the 20’s and very comfortable for skiing, not too hot and not too cold.  It was picturesque as usual with the snow stuck to the trees.  The Lonely Lake trail we skiied was in great condition and I couldn’t have been happier as I glided along the snow beneath the towering cliffs and pine trees.

The company I had for the ski made it even better.  Both of my children came along without too much reluctance and neither complained during the ski.  I enjoyed the company of my long-time friend and her husband from the cities and they made me realize again how lucky I am to live on the Gunflint Trail.

Were there trials and tribulations during 2011?  The good thing about a bad memory like mine is that I can’t remember.  I do know any year spent on the Gunflint Trail has to be a good one and for that I am thankful.  And so we say good-bye to 2011.  I hope yours was a good year and that 2012 is even better.
