Canoeing

I woke up this morning and the thermometer read 9 degrees.  I went out to the vehicle and there was frost on the windshield.  I drove to meet the bus and snowbanks lined the road.  I got home and looked at the calendar.  The date is April 14th.

When I look outside it doesn’t look like April and when I’m outside it doesn’t feel like April but it is actually April.   In less than one month the lakes will be open and people will be out canoeing.  The snow will have melted and we will be greeting guests, ready or not, here it comes.

Summer is just around the snowbank and excitement is in the air.  New equipment is arriving, store orders are being put on shelves and before we know it our summer crew will be here.  I am looking forward to my first paddle of the season.

Spring is a great time to paddle the Boundary Waters or Quetico Park.  I love to listen to the call of the loon and listen to the birds as they sing in the trees.  The woods come alive with wildlife and critters creep about.  The fish will be ready to bite and I will be ready to reel them in.

Now all we need is for the snow to melt so I can get to my canoe piles once again.
