Bears in the BWCA
There haven’t been very many bear sightings this summer in the canoe country. I imagine they are content with all of the wonderful blueberries that are everywhere you look. I’m sure they are enjoying the raspberries too. We usually don’t hear of any problem bears until late summer or early fall when some bears will feed up to 20 hours a day and ingest as much as 20,000 calories. I can’t imagine how many blueberries it would take to make 20,000 calories; if anyone likes math, then please let me know how many cups of blueberries it would take to equal 20,000 calories. I guess I realize why a bear would rather just come into our camp and eat our garbage, it would be alot easier than finding all of those berries!
