A New Kind of March Madness

It’s official. The Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon has been postponed and re-scheduled for March. Not just any day in March but March 10th, one day after the Mush for a Cure Sled Dog FUNdraiser I help organize. Is this good, bad or ugly? I don’t know for sure but it is what it is.

The one great thing about the Beargrease being postponed is there will be enough snow for Mush so it’s one less thing for me to worry about. That’s according to Geoff Vukelich, a member of the John Beargrease Board of Directors who was quoted saying, "A race in March will ensure enough snow for a successful race."  I guess he wasn’t around the year we didn’t have enough snow for our mushers in March!

With the addition of the Gichigami Sled Dog Race in our county this year it almost makes sense to make our own kind of March Madness in Cook County.  Just think of the exposure we could get for our FUNdraiser…

March MUSH Madness! March Madness on the Gunflint Trail. Maybe we could get a basketball player to be our spokesperson? Maybe we need to play a game of basketball on the ice? Maybe I’m just going mad.
