What Makes You Happy?
A writing prompt was in my email inbox this morning and it jump-started my brain. It’s from a website for bloggers called Smallbox Blogging and I don’t know how I started receiving their emails but today’s inspired me. The question to ponder was, "If money, time or other commitments were no obstacle in 2013, what would you do?"
What was the first thing that came to your mind when you read that question? In a perfect world we would already be living a life somewhat like our answer to that question. We should be doing what makes us happy and what fulfills us. If we aren’t living life like that then it’s probably time to make a change.
Do you dread going to work each day? Do you grumble to your co-workers about how bad you have it? Or do you go to work with a smile on your face and spready your enthusiasm for your career? You are the one who made the choice to be doing what you are doing and if you don’t like it then you can make another choice to improve your situation.
I know money is necessary and there are bills to be paid but who created those bills? Was it someone else who made the decision to buy a big house, a fancy car or nice furniture or did you make that decision?
I love to travel, hike, camp, canoe and spend time with my family and friends. I also like to volunteer in school, at church and with kids in general. I feel like I am living like I want to be living. I get to volunteer, I have opportunities to travel, I spend time with my family and friends and I live in a place that allows me to camp, hike and canoe, often times with my family and friends.
When I "go to work" at Voyageur it doesn’t feel like work. I like to talk to people about their canoe trips and I enjoy sending others out into the wilderness so they can benefit from all of the wonderful aspects of a canoe camping trip in the Boundary Waters.
I hope you think about that question, "If money, time or other commitments were no obstacle in 2013, what would you do?" I also hope you take the time to make a list of those things that make you happy and figure out how you can do the things you want to do in 2013. And if it includes a trip to see us at Voyageur, then that’s even better!
