Tusc Triathalon

     Wednesday was the Annual Tusc Triathalon.  I’m not sure which number it was but I do know I participated last year and that Andy(VCO Star) took first for the 2nd year in a row!  Congratulations Andy Spaeth, you rock.

    The Triathalon is just a fun event put on for summer staff of the various lodges on the Gunflint Trail.  It starts out with way too long of a swim, then a 3 mile bike ride and a 2 mile uphill both ways run.  I kidded before the race that Andy and I would be the bookends of the race, him coming in first and me coming in last.  Pathetically for me I was all too accurate. 

     I technically wasn’t the last person to finish because the owner of Tusc, and my too nice of a friend Sue, walked for awhile so I could catch up.  There was also one other Tusc staff member behind me that I claim was a trail sweep, not a true participant.  Then there were those who wore flippers to swim, completed a short course or just quit after the bike ride. 

     I did participate in the triathalon and I did finish.  I guess there are those people who wouldn’t even participate in such a thing so I should be proud of myself.  This is what people tell me.  I think I would be prouder to be the other bookend, but I have to admit, I’m quite proud of Andy and the great job he did for the 2nd year in a row!
