There ARE Monsters!

Yesterday was the last day of school for the kids.  That in itself would have been enough excitement for most children but I wasn’t content with that.  Josh will celebrate his Golden Birthday on Saturday so it was his day at school and we decided we would celebrate his birthday, the end of school, the beginning of summer and his friend Dawson’s Birthday after school.

I’m the type of person who feels sorry for kids who are left out of things so of course we had to invite everyone in Josh’s class.  There’s only 15 or so but then there’s the other first grade class and most of those are his friends too, so we had to invite them as well.  Luckily all but two of the girls were doing something with Girl Scouts and couldn’t make it to the party or we would have really had our hands full.

Unfortunately it was raining in town yesterday so we were mainly confined to inside of the Community Center.  Little boys have tons of energy even after playing, "Monkey Says…, Monkey, Monkey, Banana(Duck, duck, goose), pass this, pin that, throw this, throw that.  All of this wasn’t quite enough in my mind to celebrate Josh’s Golden Birthday, so we invited 3 of the boys to come for a sleepover.

We didn’t get home until after 7:00 but the kids were still ready to play.  They ran, they fished, they played and finally I made them come inside to settle down for a movie.  After the movie it was time to play the "mean mom."  I told them it was time to go to bed.

Mike was already up in bed so I decided to join him.  After 20 minutes of giggling I played mean mom again.  40 minutes later I had enough.  I went to the stairwell to yell and the kids said, "But there are monsters trying to get in!"  I calmlly replied, "There are no monsters, now if you do not be quiet and go to sleep you will be separated."  "But they are trying to get in!!!"

 BED!  NOW! SILENCE!

When I heard them giggling again I almost blew a gasket.  Then I looked at my clock and saw it was 5:30AM!  It felt like I had just fallen asleep and here it was morning already.  I begged them to go back to sleep, but it was no use.  They were up for the day and so was I.

I had guests to serve breakfast for so I sleepily made my way into the lodge to turn the coffee pot on and lo and behold there were monsters in my lodge!  I rubbed my eyes to try and clear them but when I opened my eyes they were still there!  Six monsters from Little Falls, MN who were scattered about the lodge.

These monsters were trying to find Mike or me to let them into the office to get their car keys so they could go home.  Since they couldn’t convince the boys that they were not monsters but really just people knocking on the doors they settled for the warm dry floor of the lodge for the night.

Whooops!  My bad, I apologize boys, you are right, there really are monsters or something like that anyway!
