Paddle Fever
Now that the snow is beginning to melt and the Mush for a Cure is over I can think about the upcoming paddling season. Some folks were ahead of me last weekend when they were already thinking paddling in Madison, Wisconsin.
Canoecopia is the world’s largest paddlesport exposition and this year’s event was held March 13-15th, 2009. Mike’s attended numerous times and has always had a good time visiting with dealer reps and attending presentations. I’ve attended for the Gunflint Trail Association in the past and enjoyed visiting with all of the paddling enthusiasts. This year the GTA was there promoting the Gunflint Trail’s Becoming a Boundary Waters Family.
Becoming a Boundary Water’s Family was another one of Mike’s excellent ideas. He has been bugging me for a number of years to write a book about it and I’ve written numerous articles about it, but there’s only so much you can do in a day. The GTA decided it was a good enough idea to pursue as a group and put together an introduction to the program for last summer.
This summer there will be more Becoming a Boundary Waters Family activities on the Gunflint Trail. The USFS has jumped aboard and there’s even a booklet that will be coming out. Be sure to check out the website frequently as more information will continue to be added. Until then, you can give us a call and we’ll let you know all about becoming a Boundary Water’s Family.
