Mush for a Cure? Not This Year.

It wasn’t an easy decision to make but this year we have decided to not hold the Mush for a Cure Sled Dog FUNdraiser. Unfortunately we weren’t having the regular number of mushers sign up to participate and with the event just over a month away we couldn’t continue the planning and preparation without knowing we’d be able to cover the expenses of putting the event on.

A popular sled dog race in Deer River had to postpone their event and re-scheduled it for the same day as this year’s Mush so many of our participants will be heading there this year. We wish them the best and hope there is enough snow for the race. The lack of snow in the rest of the state is also affecting the number of registrations because people haven’t been able to get out and train as much as they need to.

I’m very thankful for the continued support of our sponsors and want to thank those who had already agreed to sponsor us again or for the first time this year. We’re also grateful for all of the businesses who have donated items in the past for our mushers and for the many volunteers that make the event the huge success it is.  Please don’t think you are off of the hook completely, just because we aren’t having it this year doesn’t mean we won’t have it next year.  If there is renewed interest we will certainly entertain holding a Mush for a Cure in 2016.

We apologize because we know there are many people who like to participate in the event in other ways, especially our Bald, Brave and Beautiful Competition. We even had a willing participant all lined up, thank you Mr. Mayor, but you can save your hair.  If you have reservations for a cabin on the Gunflint Trail then we encourage you to keep the reservations and still make the trip up the Gunflint Trail for Sunday’s Trout Derby on Gunflint Lake.

Thank you all for your help and support in raising $226,500 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation over the years.
