Fox on the Gunflint Trail

There sure have been alot of fox on the Gunflint Trail this year.   We have discovered a number of dens right along the Gunflint Trail in the ditches.  We’re not sure why they would choose to have their young this close to the road.  Some of the guesses have been that it is easier for them to dig or that they like the heat that is close to the road.  If you have a better guess, or better yet, if you know why this is, then please e-mail and let me know.  The little fox pups have been seen playing alongside the road, tumbling in the grass and running after each other.  When we were driving home last night we saw three of them right on Sag Lake Trail.  I sure hope their mother tells them to not play on the road!
