Fishing Fever

It’s that time of the year when real anglers can’t quit thinking about fishing.  They dream about how soon they will be able to cast their line out into the water and reel in their first fish of the season.  Lucky for us we live where there are opportunities to fish pretty much year round.

Since many of our lakes on the Gunflint Trail border Canada we are able to fish for Northern Pike all year long.  As soon as the ice goes off of the lakes and the water temperature warms up to about 40 degrees the Northern head to the shallows to spawn.  They will spawn in water less than a foot deep during the middle of the day.  While the Northern are spawning they are a bit difficult to catch but right before and right after the spawn you can have lots of fun.

If you are looking for some fishing fun then plan an early May trip up the Gunflint Trail.  The border lakes beckon anglers to come and try some Northern Pike fishing.  If you don’t have plans for the fishing opener then we invite you to Voyageur.  The opener this year and Take a Mom fishing weekend is May 12-13th.  Be sure to check out our Specials Page for last minute specials or early season fishing packages.
