A Snow Day on the Gunflint Trail

The kids are happy today. First school was only going to be delayed for 2 hours but then it got cancelled. Nothing makes a kid happier than a snow day.  The trees are flocked with fresh snow and it looks beautiful outside.

Driving conditions were not very good yesterday. We were in Hayward, Wisconsin for a hockey tournament and then stopped off in Duluth for a bit. That stop was probably not a great decision because the winter storm caught up with us.  Instead of a 2 hour drive along the shore from Duluth to Grand Marais it took 3 hours.  It was white-out conditions with very poor visibility.  The snow was wet and sticky so we had to stop every 20 minutes or so to clean off the windshield wipers.  Both lanes of traffic were covered in about 3-6 inches of fresh fallen snow and it was quite difficult to determine where the road was.

The good news is we made it home without incident and home is where we’ll stay today. Enjoying the snow day almost as much as the kids.
