We Still Have Ice

It’s that time of the year when all people want to know is, “Is the ice out yet?” While the streams and rivers on the north shore are running the lakes up the Gunflint Trail are still frozen. The warm temperatures and hot sunshine is doing the job of melting ice and progress can be seen on the Seagull River in front of our place and the lakes where the ice is pulling away from the edges.  If I had to guess I would say we’ll have a normal ice out date this year of the first week of May.

On Saturday the temperature got up to 77 degrees and on Sunday 79 degrees! If we keep getting temperatures like this weekend then it might be sooner but the forecast is calling for more moderate temperatures with the high in the 50’s. It won’t be long, but we still have ice for now.
