There’s a New Race in Town

Elections may be over but there’s a new race in our great County, a dog sled race that is. It’s the Gichigami Express Dog Sled Race and it begins on Sunday the 6th of January. Unlike the Beargrease this race will be spectator friendly with three separate starting locations on three separate days.

The best part about the Gichigami is the entire race takes place in Cook County. The race begins in Grand Portage and the mushers race to Trail Center on the Gunflint Trail. The next day mushers race from Trail Center to Grand Marais and on the last day they return to Grand Portage.  This keeps each leg of the race much more exciting whereas other races the mushers get very spread out along the trail.

Later in the month the Beargrease will come to Cook County and then in March we’ll mush again with Mush for a Cure, our FUNdraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. We hope you’ll join us on the Gunflint Trail March 8-10th, 2013.

Cook County is becoming quite the mushing mecca so mush on up!
