Summer Solstice

Today is the last day of Spring and tomorrow Summer begins.  The sky will begin to lighten up at 4:22AM and will rise at 5:03AM.  The sun will be up in the sky until 9:04PM when it will set and by 9:44PM twilight will end.  The longest day of the year will then be over and we’ll start the descent towards the fall equinox and eventually the shortest day of the year in December.

Sunlight is a good thing and the long days of summer on the Gunflint Trail are cherished.  The birds wake us up with their singing shortly after 4am and the loons sing us to bed after 10pm.  There is plenty of daylight to paddle great distances in the Boundary Waters or Quetico Park.  The only difficulty I have this time of the year is staying up late enough to enjoy an evening campfire.

The season is in full swing at Voyageur and we’d love to see you up here.  It’s not too late to make reservations as Summer is just beginning.
