Northwoods Potpourri

It’s a little bit of this and that today at the end of the Gunflint Trail since I can’t seem to get my thoughts organized enough to write a blog that would make sense!

If you like birds then you need to check out this website.   It’s an interactive display with drawings of Minnesota birds you can click on and hear the sounds they make.  A very neat cooperative effort the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer Magazine put together with bird sounds from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Our friend Layne Kennedy has a new blog posting in which he describes himself as a Heinz 57 Variety.  I love Heinz 57 and I love the work he does as an editorial photographer.  Anyone who loves the Boundary Waters and Quetico Park will want to purchase his new book, Paddle North-Canoeing the Boundary Waters-Quetico Wilderness.  It’s not due out until November 1st, but you can pre-order it and have it in time for a Christmas present to give to your paddling enthusiast or yourself!

Last but not least Canoe and Kayak Magazine has a Reader’s Choice Awards every year and our friends at Wenonah are in the running in quite a few categories.  We hope you will take the time to vote for them and your other favorite gear at the Canoe and Kayak website.  Of course we think Wenonah is the best at everything they do and have voted for their Current Design model in #5, Wenonah Fusion #7, Current Design #10 and Wenonah in #13.  I wish I could tell you to vote for us in #14, best outfitter, but we aren’t in the running, maybe next year…

The wind has finally quit blowing at the end of the Gunflint Trail.  Now I just need to find my thoughts that seem to have been scattered with the wind.
