Northern Forest Canoe Trail

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) will “officially” open on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 3, 2006.  This 740-mile trail travels through rivers, across portages, over lakes and ponds in New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine.   The Trail traces historic Native American routes and is a living reminder of  history, similar to the travels of Voyageurs and Native Americans in our own canoe country of Northeastern Minnesota.  Minnesota based Wenonah Canoe and Current Designs is a proud sponsor of this non-profit organization who relied heavily on volunteers to complete the project in five and a half years.  The mission of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) is to celebrate the rich human heritage and diverse natural environment of the Northern Forest, by establishing and stewarding a water trail tracing historic Native American travel routes across the Northern Forest   region.  If you would like to learn more about the Trail or are looking for a place to paddle then be sure to check out their website at http://www.northernforestcanoetrail.org.
