Mush for a Cure 2014

The Mush for a Cure Sled Dog FUNdraiser is happening soon. This year’s festivities will happen March 7th and 8th on the Gunflint Trail.

The theme for Friday night’s Bald, Brave and Beautiful party at Windigo Lodge is “Zombie.”  Find some pink raggedy clothing, put a zombie face on and come out for some head shaving fun.  This year we have our first female contestant ever!  Musher Anna Genz is a 17-year breast cancer survivor willing to have her head shaved for the cause. Joining her will be locals Cory Christiansen(Gunflint Trail columnist) and Craig Horak(Tire and Auto Lodge).  We hope there will be lots of people there to support and cheer them on.

This year the start and finish of the Mushing event will be held on Gunflint Lake in front of Gunflint Pines.  A loop on the ski trails and lake will result in the same amount of mileage but will take less time plowing parking spots because we’ll only have to do it on one lake instead of two.  It will also provide better viewing opportunities for spectators and make it easier for mushers who will not have to transport their trucks down the trail.  We’re excited for the change and hope you will be too.

The snowmobile club will be grilling food on Saturday,  there will be music on the lake and tons of fun!  We hope you’ll help us raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and join us for the 8th annual Mush for a Cure.
