May on the Gunflint Trail- One Month Away Today
Whether or not they move the Minnesota Fishing Opener we’ll be ready to see you the first week of May at Voyageur Canoe Outfitters. We’ll be a little preoccupied on Sunday, May 6th as it’s the 5th Annual Ham Run Half-Marathon.
It’s difficult to believe it’s been five years since the Ham Lake Fire. But here it is, 2012 and the Gunflint Trail looks different every year. The race course follows the path the fire took and the re-growth is amazing to see. This year will be especially spectacular since the green up is about a month ahead of schedule. It will make the run even more interesting.
If you’ve ever wanted to run a race then the Ham Run is the one to run. It’s the Meanest and Greenest Race in Minnesota and when I say the meanest I’m talking about the hilly terrain, not the volunteers. We always get great reviews about our friendly and supportive volunteers. We also get praise for being so green.
We do as much as we can to remain the greenest race in Minnesota. To my knowledge no other race even comes close. We have only online registration, we’re cup-free, we purchase T-shirts with recycled material, we re-use our race signs and have many more green initiatives. It’s a great race to be a part of.
If the Half-Marathon is a bit much for you then come run or walk the 5-k. It’s also a scenic course that runners love. We know you would enjoy the Ham Run and even if you don’t run you’ll love our good old-fshioned ham dinner. And if you’re really motivated then contact me to volunteer, we can always use your help.
We hope to see you on the Trail Less Traveled this May for the Ham Run Half-Marathon and 5k Fun Run.
