Labor Day Weekend 2011

Hope everyone is enjoying this Labor Day Weekend.  Our Voyageur Crew members Jake and Jessica have been canoeing and camping in the Quetico Park for the past few days and I’m sure they have enjoyed their weekend so far.  It’s a great time to be canoe camping in the Quetico or Boundary Waters.

Our guests have been pleasantly surprised at the lack of people in the woods and the lack of bugs.  They are happy to be catching smallmouth bass and northern pike from their canoes.  Everyone is seeing bald eagles, loons, red squirrels, ducks and many have reported hearing wolves, seeing moose and a couple of spotted bears on distant shores.

One person reported seeing a UFO.  Since it gets dark earlier now folks are able to stay awake and enjoy an evening campfire.  The other night a flying object that was too large to be a satellite and  too small to be a plane or star was spotted.  They were convinced it was a UFO but upon their return home they learned it was just the Space Station passing by.  Whew, I was alarmed for a minute.

The good news is the paddling continues to be pleasant for the rest of September and even into October.  This is the time of the year I love to watch the forecast and get out for a few nights myself.  There are plenty of permits available, you don’t have to worry about finding a campsite and the mornings when there’s a fog on the water are some of the most beautiful you will ever see.

All the best this Labor Day Weekend and hope to see you at Voyageur yet this season.
