Keeping Track of Winter

There are some interesting websites out there regarding winter conditions in Minnesota and elsewhere.  One really neat site is updated by the Minnesota Climatology Working Group.  The entire site has some great information but my favorite page is the ice out page.  This page keeps track of a bunch of different Minnesota Lakes and when their ice goes off.  Saganaga is listed for our area so you can check back to this site on a regular basis to see what the current ice conditions are.  There is also a page that has weekly temperature and precipitation records for Grand Marais,  MN.  Although the weather in Grand Marais isn’t the same as at the end of the Gunflint Trail it is somewhat similar most days.

Another neat website packed with information about weather is the National Weather Service Snow Analyses page.  On this website you can find out all of the information you ever wanted to know about snow conditions around the United States.  It has information about the depth of the snow, the amount of snow cover, the melting of the snow, the temperature of the snow, the percentage of snow cover and much more.

It’s hard to believe just last month we were covered in snow and now it is almost all gone.   If you know of any other neat websites about weather then let me know!
