Heaven on the Trail

There aren’t too many things better than going out for a ski on a cold winter’s day with friends.   But there is one thing that is better for sure and that is going out for a ski on a freshly groomed trail.

Yesterday friends and I were skiing along the Highlands Trail when suddenly I heard music to my ears.  We rounded a corner and I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, and there in front of us was the groomer coming right toward us.  That meant everything beyond that point had just been groomed.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one who compares freshly groomed ski trails with exotic beaches in paradise but there’s something about them I love.  Anytime I’m in my car driving on the Gunflint Trail and I come across a trail in perfect shape my car almost skids to a stop.  I stare in awe, thinking about how awesome it would be to ski.

Well, yesterday my dream came true and in spite of the 0 degree temperature, I felt as if I experienced a taste of heaven on that newly groomed ski trail.  The sun shining brightly, snow sparkling like diamonds, surrounded by friends, it just doesn’t get much better than that.
