Happy May Day from Voyageur Canoe Outfitters

There are no freshly picked wildflowers on my porch or my neighbor’s porch this morning. I remember when I was a kid the tradition of placing a May Day basket on my neighbor’s steps on the 1st of May. We’d put some candy and flowers in a basket, set it on our neighbor’s doorstep, ring the doorbell and run! As I got older I favored the game of Ding, Dong, Ditch, where friends and I would ring the neighbor’s bell and run away without leaving anything on their porch, but that’s an entirely different game.

There are no flowers to be picked as of yet. The ground is too cold and frozen for flowers to appear and in contrast to last year when all of the flowers were seen earlier than normal we’ll be seeing them later than normal. The photo of these marsh marigolds is from May Day 2012. I’m thinking the photo of these flowers are the only flowers I’ll see blooming this May Day.

Happy May Day from Voyageur Canoe Outfitters!
