Fishing in the Quetico Park

The Quetico Park adapted new fishing regulations that came into effect in January 2008.  The original plan was to ban lead tackle, barbed hooks and live bait but they decided against banning lead.

Barbed hooks may be present in your tackle box but not on your line.  You can pinch the barbs or use barbless hooks in order to be in compliance.  This will help reduce the mortality rate for catch and release fishing.

Only artificial bait can be used and that includes any live or dead organic bait.  The rules have been implemented to help control the introduction of invasive species.  Since invasive aquatic species can be introduced through live or dead bait it will no longer be allowed.

Barbs or no barbs I’m excited to go fishing in the Quetico Park.
