Easing Fire Restrictions

Over an inch of rain in the past week and the new green buds on the trees have helped ease the fire danger in Cook County enough to allow the Sheriff to revoke the County wide burning ban. The USFS has re-opened the Kekekabic Hiking Trail and will now allow campfires in their developed campgrounds.  There is still a fire ban in the BWCA but hopefully with the cooler temperatures and precipitation in the forecast campers will be able to have campfires at least from 7pm until midnight in the near future.

Yesterday the Gunflint Trail was spotted with white in the ditches once again.  This time the white wasn’t snow but piles of pea sized hail. It was all over the deck and even stuck around long enough for the kids to play with it after school.

Today is starting out overcast with a cool temperature of 33 degrees.  The ground is wet and we’ve had .32 inches of precipitation in the past 24 hours.  If this keeps up then the rest of the fire bans should be eased before long.
