Dreaming of the Boundary Waters or Quetico Park?
Saganaga isn’t frozen over and I’m already dreaming about next year’s canoe trip. Guess I didn’t get my fill of canoe camping this past summer. If you’re already thinking canoeing or haven’t quit thinking about it then there’s something you may be interested in if you live near the Twin Cities.
This Saturday, December 3rd, the Minnesota Canoe Association is holding a Symposium called The Boundary Waters and Beyond. They have a full schedule of speakers including one of my favorites, Lee Frelich from the University of Minnesota Center of Forest Ecology. He’ll speak about the BWCA Blowdown and affects of fire on the forest.
Bob O’Hara will be present at the Symposium talking about Worst Case Scenarios. Bob helped our Voyageur Crew this past summer on their Hudson Bay Expedition. Another speaker will present about a solo trip in the same area our crew paddled.
The Symposium sounds like a good way to spend the day among paddling enthusiasts. I’m not sure why I wasn’t asked to present since we all know I could entertain for hours. My best guess is they knew they couldn’t afford me so didn’t bother asking. In any case, if you’re dreaming about paddling then you may as well check out the Symposium on Saturday.
