Boundary Waters or Bust

Matt and Cassidy, our managers at Voyageur were able to get out on their first canoe trip of the season. They had enough sunshine to get a sunburn and spent two nights on Ottertrack Lake. Ottertrack is one of my favorite lakes in the BWCA.

With a tow across Saganaga Lake you can usually get to Ottertrack in around four hours. It’s mainly paddling with a 5 rod lift over from 3rd Bay into Swamp Lake, and an 80 rod portage into Ottertrack. It’s beautiful scenery with high cliffs on the Canadian side of the lake. There’s good fishing, nice campsites and quite a few options for day trips.

If you are ever short on time and want to get into the Boundary Waters then think about a quick trip into Ottertrack Lake. You’ll be glad you did.
