Anxiously Awaiting Return of Ely Challenge Participants

Two of our Voyageur Crew members are at the tail end of their canoe trip to Ely and back. They are paddling what is known as the Ely Challenge. It’s when a canoe crew leaves the Voyageur dock, paddles across the Boundary Waters to Moose Lake, then hitches a ride into the Dairy Queen in Ely, sends a postcard to us, hitches back to Moose Lake and paddles home.

We’ve had numerous Voyageur crew members attempt this feat just for fun. There’s no prize except for pride in having completed the voyage. The goal is to finish in 24 hours or less and when Matt and Abigail sent us their photo in front of the Dairy Queen in Ely they were on track at just under 12 hours of travel.

We expect them to arrive back at Voyageur around 9pm tonight. They have clear skies tonight but unfortunately last night over an inch of rain fell on them. We’re looking forward to hearing all about their trip upon their return.
