Alpine Lake Fire- 1 week later

It seems like it has been much longer than a week since the Alpine Lake Fire began.  The threat of wildfire so close to one’s home and business has a way of taking it’s toll on a person.  Add that to the end of August in an outfitting business and you can see the stress on my face.  The rest of the staff here at Voyageur has taken everything in stride.  It has been amazing to watch Mike, Don, Marilyn and our crew adjust to the added demands of feeding the fire crew on top of helping our guests at Voyageur.  They all have done an awesome job and have put in some long, hard hours; I don’t know what we’d do without them.  I’m very grateful for the hard work of our staff and everyone involved in fighting the Alpine Lake Fire.  There will be fire crews at the end of the Trail for quite some time as fire can smolder and live in the duff for a very long time.  They say it takes winter to really say the fire is out.  The wind forecast for today is from the South so it will keep the smoke out of our eyes for the better part of the day.  Crews will be working to contain the fire and reinforce the lines they have been working on.  The planes are still flying and will continue to do battle until the flames give up.
