A Perfect Start

Today’s the day, it’s the first day of Winter Tracks on the Gunflint Trail.  With big snowflakes falling from the sky and a fresh 2-4 inches along the Trail the resorts are ready and waiting for folks to come and play like we do.

There is a full schedule of events posted on the Winter Tracks Website so be sure to check it out.  Today there are just a couple of activities planned but it is a great day to come enjoy the cross-country ski trails or snowshoe through the woods.

Tomorrow the outdoor brick oven will be heated up at Hestons for some delicious pizza.  If you have never eaten their pizza then be sure to put it on your list of things to do before you die because it is absolutely scrumptious.  I’m not sure if I’ll get over there tomorrow from 1-3pm because there are a number of other things going on but I’m sure going to try.

Friday night the Trail Center is the place to be.  With our local radio station WTIP broadcasting live and our local Trail’s End Band playing afterwards it’s sure to be a blast.  You don’t want to stay out too late because there’s a packed schedule on Saturday.

Saturday the activities start early and continue on into the night.  Radar runs, cross-country ski races, snow sculptures, snowmobile poker run and so much more, too many choices, too little time.  There’s mini-winter olympics and snowshoe obstacle course at Gunflint Pines and broomball at Tuscarora for those competitive types.  Then relax and enjoy dinner and music Saturday evening.

Sunday there will be trout fishing during the Snowmobile Club’s Annual Trout Derby.  The forecast is calling for a good winter weekend.  It will be cold enough to keep some great snow conditions and not too cold to keep people from venturing outside.

I’m hoping to see you outside on the Gunflint Trail this weekend enjoying the many wonderful activities we have to offer.  It’s a perfect start to what will be an even more perfect weekend.
