Winter Tracks 2007

If you’ve been looking for a way to experience all winter has to offer then look no further, The Gunflint Trail Winter Tracks Festival has it all. When can you ice skate, cross-country ski, play broomball, slide down a hill, snowshoe and ice fish all free of charge? You guessed it, at the Gunflint Trail Winter Tracks Festival from March 1-4th.

Highlights of this year’s Winter Tracks

On Friday you can listen to a seminar about winter camping and then make a pizza in an outdoor brick pizza oven at Heston’s Lodge.  Make tracks over to Trail Center for an evening of entertainment with Grand Marais’ very own radio station, WTIP.  They will be broadcasting their popular shows all evening.

Learn about some popular winter sports by attending demonstrations throughout the Festival but especially on Saturday when you can watch outdoor curling at Golden Eagle Lodge, Skijoring at Gunflint Lodge and snowmobile drag races at Windigo.  Find out what kind of tracks you can make with snowshoes on or enjoy a game of broomball at Tuscarora before heading over to Gunflint Lodge for an evening of festivities.  There will be a dance, dinner, awards presentation and even a bonfire to enjoy by all.

Be sure to make your way out to Gunflint Lake on Sunday where you can learn to ice fish, drill a hole with an auger, participate in a snowshoe obstacle course, win prizes and try your luck at the Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club Trout Derby.

There is something for everyone at this year’s Winter Tracks Festival.  Seminars, art exhibits, snow sculptures, Mongolian Dinner in a yurt and so much more.  Be sure to call 1-800-338-6832 or visit the website for detailed information regarding lodging, registration, and fees for specific events.
