What Do Kids Do For Fun?

The summers are short and winters are long in Grand Marais, MN but some of the kids know how to spend their time.  There’s a group of kids who have been learning to log roll from 8 time World Championship Log Roller and Boom Runner Jenny Atkinson.  They are known as the Cook County North Shore Rollers and Jenny along with the help of the children’s parents recently had one of her athletes win a World Championship as well.

Lucy Shaw from Grand Marais, MN won the title for the 10U Girls Division.  Other area rollers did well too with Jessica Berg-Collman taking 2nd place in the 17U Girls Division, Paige Everson placing 7th and Luke Johnson in the boys division.   The World Championships took place in Hayward, Wisconsin the last weekend in July.  The North Shore Rollers competed during the Fisherman’s Picnic in Grand Marais, MN this past weekend.

Josh and I had a fun time practicing log rolling on Friday while the kids weren’t competing.  A few of his classmates roll as do Abby’s.  I can’t seem to get my kids interested in rolling in a competition, we just practice at Voyageur on our log.  Here’s a video of two of Abby’s friends competing at the Fisherman’s Picnic in Grand Marais.
