Surviving the Cold

I love to watch hockey at an outdoor rink but yesterday was a bit cold.  The first game was at around noon and the sun was shining.  Snowflakes fell off and on and the wind blew a little but it was quite comfortable ourside, maybe in the 20’s.  By the time the second game was played at around 3pm it was starting to cool off and blow.  The third game was scheduled for 5pm and when we went back outside things had changed drastically.  The wind was whipping and the temperature had dropped to below zero.  Wind gusts were up to 30 miles per hour and in less than 2 minutes of skating the player’s faces were red.  Needless to say that game ended early and the tournament as well.

I’m not sure if it was the wind or cold that caused the electricity to go out yesterday.  We weren’t home for the four or more hours without power but we had guests in both of the lodge units.  Luckily there are gas fireplaces in the units so our guests didn’t freeze.  It can get cold indoors in a hurry with the wind blowing and temperatures hovering in the negative 20’s.

Today was bitterly cold and windy again.  Luckily I didn’t have much reason to be outside and could sit inside by the warmth of a fire.  Tonight will be chilly again but according to the forecast things will warm up by next weekend.  Until then I hope you all are surviving the cold.
