Soccer and Voyageur

What does the US Cup Soccer Tournament in Blaine, MN have in common with Voyageur Canoe Outfitters at the end of the Gunflint Trail? A group of Colombian soccer players and their coaches.  Every year the Colombian soccer team comes to Voyageur after their tournament to spend time in the Boundary Waters.  The group is led by Minnesota native Dan Skillings who now lives in Bogotá, Colombia where he makes his living finding summer camps, schools, trips, and employment for Colombian youth to participate in.  His business is called Primavera Camping Tours and unless you know some Spanish you may have difficulty reading his website.

The US Cup Soccer Tournament has over 13,500 participants and there are teams from 17 countries and 28 states.  For the past few years we have also had a group of players from Ecuador paddle with us before the tournament.  We enjoy having both of these soccer teams at Voyageur and we always look forward to their return.
