Snowshoe Trek

Yesterday I was able to enjoy my favorite snowshoe trek.  The sun was shining brilliantly and the new fallen snow sparkled as I made my tracks by snowshoe.

There’s a wonderful loop I do right from my doorstep that takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.  I begin by heading across the Seagull River and then onto our property over there.  We have a path that travels west through the woods to Gulf Lake.  Once I get to Gulf I travel North half of the distance of the lake where there is another trail through the woods.  This trail heads back east to the Seagull River where I snowshoe south and back to my doorstep.

While my tracks were the only human ones I saw there was a multitude of other tracks;  pine marten, fox, rabbits, birds, mice and who knows what else had traveled the same route.  It is so wonderful to experience the winter solitude of a wilderness lake or a trek through the winter  woods.  I am forever grateful to live at the end of the Gunflint Trail.
