Smoke on the Trail
Dry, warm, and windy weather has kept the smoke rising on the Gunflint Trail. We have only received a half of an inch of rain in October and September’s rainfall didn’t amount to much. Fire can remain active in the duff, smoldering underground, until
a significant amount of rainfall is received or until the snow flies. While we don’t always look forward to large amounts of snowfall in October, I have to admit that I wouldn’t mind it coming soon this year. There is snow in the forecast, 6-8 inches to be exact, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
