Quetico Lake Names

Have you ever wondered where they came up with all of the names for the lakes in the Quetico Park?  There’s a great book called Lake Names of Quetico Provincial Park and if you ever get a chance to read it then please do.  Many of the lake names are obvious since they are named after animals or plants; Lynx, Lilypad, Red Pine.  Some lakes are named after people that were associated with the area; bush pilots, loggers, park rangers, and surveyors.  There are many Ojibwe and French lake names that reflect the history of the area; Lac la Croix, Maligne, Blackstone, Batchewaung.  It’s fun to find out the origin of the lake names, so if you know of any, then please let me know!
